The cashews do lend a lighter taste compared to most traditional Indonesian peanut sauces, and...it does make things smoother. However, i must say that it probably works better on gado-gado where the veggies are boiled compared to on a karedok with raw veggies and kencur kaempferia galanga in the sauce. Don't get me wrong, i love kencur, but the lighter peanut sauce here makes it a bit too powerful, so i reckon that perhaps a stronger peanut taste would have served the dish better. Now for 38 K++ the portion and overall taste here is definitely quite serviceable and it is quite a comfy place to eat in, so it is quite worth the asking price. However, o do understand why most Indonesians would probably scoff at the idea of shelling so much for veggies. That being said, i think Indonesian food has such a wide variety of great vegetarian or even vegan options such as this dish and that this is still so much cheaper and arguably tastier than those upscale vegetarian or vegan options especially those who use mock meat .. urgh why... seriously, why????. Overall, this is a good clean serviceable chain for people looking for affordable but worth its value Indonesian dishes - especially since it has a wider range of vegetarian and vegan options compared to most others in this price range, so do try it out if that's what you're looking for. They are famous for "gado gado" which is mixed veggies mostly steamed, some raw with peanut based sauce poured over it. You eat...it with or without rice we were told. They served crackers with it called "emping". The rice dishes were delicious as well such as nasi goreng rendang fried rice with rendang-a spicy meat dish, nasi timbel steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves served with various side dishes. The Menteng restaurant is on Jl Gereja Theresia and is a large and popular eatery. Given that Gado Gado is its specialty, the eating just is not that...great. The location is pretty easy to find on Gereja Theresia. There is parking in front but not enough space for a busy weekday lunchtime. The building is large with dozens of tables but it still seems pretty busy at lunchtime. The exterior is imposing rather than attractive and inside it has the feel of a canteen rather than somewhere particularly appealing. The place is quite clean but not exactly spotless. Service was run off its feet by having so many customers. There was too much to track and there were not enough menus to go around. Limited English was spoken but much easier to use Bahasa Indonesia. The food was a disappointment. The plating was terrible with the food clearly having slipped all over the place before landing which made it look poor. A Gado Gado itself was uninspiring. It had a little spice in it but the same amount of spice was in a meal ordered spicy as one ordered normally. Given this is a Gado Gado specialty it was just like other Gado Gados. There was nothing about it that was unique or interesting. Given this is the name of the place, the dish was not up to expectations. The menu is pretty extensive and of course Gado Gado itself is a vegetarian dish so that means there is something to eat here for veggies. Drinks come in quite a wide range and a good recommendation was made by one of the staff. Given that Gado Gado is available in many Indonesian restaurants, there was nothing about Gado Gado Boplo that stood out at all. We tried the meatball soup and the wonton soup which surprisingly taste good. We tried the gurame dish but it was not as crunchy as it supposed to be. Berdiri sejak tahun 1960-an, aura klasik nostalgia bisa kamu rasakan langsung di restorannya yang gak begitu besar tapi lawas banget. Siraman kuah kacang di sini sangat khas karena kacangnya disangrai dahulu sebelum digiling lembut menjadi bumbu. Usaha yang dirintis oleh Ibu Niawati Setiawan ini memang dulunya berlokasi di Jalan Cemara, tapi saat ini cabangnya ada banyak di beberapa tempat. Sejak 1947 cita-rasa lezatnya tetap dipertahankan dengan porsinya yang terkenal melimpah dan bikin kenyang. Harganya memang agak sedikit mahal, tapi terbayar dengan rasanya yang enak dan tempatnya yang masih di lingkungan elit. Gado-gado di sini terkenal dengan saus kacangnya yang beraroma dan kental, sehingga cocok serta terasa lezat di lidah. The cashews do lend a lighter taste compared to most traditional Indonesian peanut sauces, and...it does make things smoother. However, i must say that it probably works better on gado-gado where the veggies are boiled compared to on a karedok with raw veggies and kencur kaempferia galanga in the sauce. Don't get me wrong, i love kencur, but the lighter peanut sauce here makes it a bit too powerful, so i reckon that perhaps a stronger peanut taste would have served the dish better. Now for 38 K++ the portion and overall taste here is definitely quite serviceable and it is quite a comfy place to eat in, so it is quite worth the asking price. However, o do understand why most Indonesians would probably scoff at the idea of shelling so much for veggies. That being said, i think Indonesian food has such a wide variety of great vegetarian or even vegan options such as this dish and that this is still so much cheaper and arguably tastier than those upscale vegetarian or vegan options especially those who use mock meat .. urgh why... seriously, why????. Overall, this is a good clean serviceable chain for people looking for affordable but worth its value Indonesian dishes - especially since it has a wider range of vegetarian and vegan options compared to most others in this price range, so do try it out if that's what you're looking for. They are famous for "gado gado" which is mixed veggies mostly steamed, some raw with peanut based sauce poured over it. You eat...it with or without rice we were told. They served crackers with it called "emping". The rice dishes were delicious as well such as nasi goreng rendang fried rice with rendang-a spicy meat dish, nasi timbel steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves served with various side dishes. The Menteng restaurant is on Jl Gereja Theresia and is a large and popular eatery. Given that Gado Gado is its specialty, the eating just is not that...great. The location is pretty easy to find on Gereja Theresia. There is parking in front but not enough space for a busy weekday lunchtime. The building is large with dozens of tables but it still seems pretty busy at lunchtime. The exterior is imposing rather than attractive and inside it has the feel of a canteen rather than somewhere particularly appealing. The place is quite clean but not exactly spotless. Service was run off its feet by having so many customers. There was too much to track and there were not enough menus to go around. Limited English was spoken but much easier to use Bahasa Indonesia. The food was a disappointment. The plating was terrible with the food clearly having slipped all over the place before landing which made it look poor. A Gado Gado itself was uninspiring. It had a little spice in it but the same amount of spice was in a meal ordered spicy as one ordered normally. Given this is a Gado Gado specialty it was just like other Gado Gados. There was nothing about it that was unique or interesting. Given this is the name of the place, the dish was not up to expectations. The menu is pretty extensive and of course Gado Gado itself is a vegetarian dish so that means there is something to eat here for veggies. Drinks come in quite a wide range and a good recommendation was made by one of the staff. Given that Gado Gado is available in many Indonesian restaurants, there was nothing about Gado Gado Boplo that stood out at all. We tried the meatball soup and the wonton soup which surprisingly taste good. We tried the gurame dish but it was not as crunchy as it supposed to be.
